Known for his artistic versatility, whether it be as a classical, jazz or contemporary musician, cellist Bryan Holt has performed throughout North America and abroad in numerous concert halls and alternative venues.
He has appeared with many of the leading ensembles in the Greater Toronto Area. He has appeared with Continuum Contemporary Music, Art of Time Ensemble, Pocket Concerts, Soundstreams, Thin Edge New Music Collective, Tapestry Opera, Health Arts Society of Ontario and more. Bryan occasionally appears in the cello sections of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian Opera Company Orchestra, Esprit Orchestra and many other professional orchestras and ensembles. He spent the 2012-2013 season with the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra.
As a soloist Bryan has presented several recitals and was a semi-finalist in the 2015 Eckhardt-Gramatté National Competition in Contemporary Music. Last spring he performed the Dvořák Cello Concerto with the Etobicoke Philharmonic Orchestra. He has toured across the United States with the Art of Time Ensemble and Uccello. Bryan is co-founder of the Amarok Ensemble who appeared in the International Showcase at Bing Concert Hall at Stanford University in June 2015.
Bryan completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto, where he was a two-time recipient of the Felix Galimir Award in Chamber Music Performance. He holds a masters degree from McGill University in Solo Cello Performance. Bryan is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Music in Cello Performance at the University of Toronto researching distance learning strategies for the transmission of modern cello pedagogy.
