AMY LAING
Originally from Nanaimo British Columbia, Amy Laing earned her Bachelor of Music degree from the HARID Conservatory in Boca Raton Florida, and her Master of Music degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Following her studies Ms. Laing worked in several orchestras in Ohio before moving to Toronto. Amy plays regularly with the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and has played with the Canadian Opera Company, the Windsor Symphony, Niagara Symphony, Thunder Bay Symphony, and also held a short-term contract with Symphony Nova Scotia in Halifax. In 2011/12 Amy was principal cello in the Victoria Symphony where she also taught at the Victoria Conservatory of Music. Amy is an active chamber musician, and was a member of the Madawaska String Quartet. Beyond the classical music genre, Amy has worked with Toronto’s Art of Time Ensemble, SoulPepper Theatre Company, and the Toronto Dance Theatre. She has performed or recorded with leading Canadian artists including Jesse Cook, The Barenaked Ladies, Blue Rodeo, Jim Cuddy, Steven Page, Sarah Slean, Molly Johnson, Jim Guthrie, Amy Sky, and played a Canadian tour with Blue Rodeo.
