THE POEM / THE SONG
A program presenting music inspired by the poem and poetry in a variety of contrasting musical settings. Among the highlights: Margaret Atwood will read her poetry accompanied by a brand new composition; Franz Liszt's musical impression of Petrarch's Sonnets; song from the worldwide smash-hit musical that was inspired by the poetry of T. S. Eliot; a venerable jazz standard paired with its poetic homage; a fantastical setting of Walt Whitman by George Crumb; and the ultimate marriage of poetry and music in the work of Leonard Cohen.
